Professor Toby Walsh will offer his insights into AI innovation in government, including why it matters and how to make the most of AI technology.

Toby is a renowned public intellectual, academic and author specialising in artificial intelligence. Toby has published 4 books on AI for a general audience, including Machines Behaving Badly and Faking It! Artificial Intelligence in a Human World. In addition to his public writing, Toby is Laureate Fellow and Scientia Professor of Artificial Intelligence at UNSW, and the Chief Scientist at UNSW.ai, UNSW’s AI Institute. 

Designed for APS and industry innovators, this panel discussion will ask the critical questions about making the most of AI innovation in the APS.

Moderated by the DTA's head of Strategy, Planning and Performance, Lucy Poole, panellists include the NAIC's executive director Lee Hickin, CSIRO's research director of Software and Computational Systems, Dr Liming Zhu, and Stela Solar, Accenture ANZ's Managing Director for Data and AI. Each of our panellists have rich experience in public and private sector tech contexts, and their combined expertise is sure to prompt a practical and generative conversation. 

Hear how government AI works in practice from innovative APS use cases. Agencies will share hands-on case studies through rotating short-form presentations and display booths, giving attendees the opportunity to understand first-hand what government needs from its Australian suppliers. 

Participating agencies include the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, the Department of Finance, the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Home Affairs, and IP Australia, among others.
 

Australian AI companies will take centre stage with an exciting set of industry showcase booths, as well as rotating demonstrations and presentations. See first-hand the AI capabilities and applications of local industry, and hear provocative and practical talks on the hot-button issues, ideas, and insights on the minds of Australia's AI innovators. Attendees can expect to see some big names as well as plenty of fresh faces.
