Improve your service across its life

Make improvements: Increase people’s use of the service by continuously optimising performance, enhancing security, introducing relevant feature, addressing bugs and increasing compatibility. Use metrics you identify in Criterion 9 (‘Monitor your service’) to reveal the biggest opportunities for impact and ground improvements in evidence. Provide adequate training and materials for staff to support change.

Trust: Transparency, ethics and governance

AI adoption in the APS requires a strong authorising environment and the maintenance of public trust. AI tools should ultimately serve the public and should be used safely and responsibly by the public service, in line with the Digital Transformation Agency's (DTA) Policy for responsible use of AI in government and the Department of Industry, Science and Resource’s AI Ethics Principles.

The initiatives under this pillar build on existing security and privacy safeguards governing the use of ICT and data, including the:

  • Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF)
  • Information Security Manual (ISM)
  • Privacy Act 1988
  • guidance from the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC)
  • Data Availability and Transparency Act
  • guidance from the Office of the National Data Commissioner (ONDC).

They will also strengthen governance, improve transparency, and ensure clear and consistent communication across the APS and with the community.

Initiatives

I must here again press my reader to a particular attention to the windings of these superficial lines, even in their passing over every joint, what alterations soever may be made in the surface of the skin by the various bendings of the limbs: and tho’ the space allowed for it, just in the joints, be ever so small, and consequently the lines ever so short, the application of this principle of varying these lines, as far as their lengths will admit of, will be found to have its effect as gracefully as in the more lengthened muscles of the body.
